Aussie sprints to win in opening stage of Vuelta a Murcia
Graeme Brown of Team Rabobank claimed the opening stage of the Vuelta a Murcia stage race in Spain on Wednesday. Riding his Giant TCR Advanced SL team bike, Brown outsprinted Greg Henderson of Columbia-High Road to take the win.
Winds split the peloton in the 192-kilometer stage from San Pedro del Pinatar to Lorca, Spain, and with 10km to go Rabobank managed to get six riders in a lead group of about 30 riders.
The five-day Vuelta a Murcia features many of the top contenders for the upcoming Giro d’Italia. Team Rabobank is led by GC contender Dennis Menchov, the two-time winner of the Vuelta a España. The complete Rabobank team roster for the Vuelta a Murcia includes Menchov, Brown, Stef Clement, Laurens Ten Dam, Koos Moerenhout, Bauke Mollema, Tom Leezer and Pieter Weening.
