GIANT’S CUTTING EDGE BICYCLE DESIGN WINS INTERNATIONAL AWARD FOR THIRD TIME

For the third straight year, Giant Bicycle’s cutting edge bicycle design has been recognized with the prestigious Eurobike Award at the Eurobike trade show.

The new Giant Accend 1bicycle, available in only a few countries in Europe and Asia, was chosen as the Gold Medal winner in the “Cross/Fitness/Speed bike” category. The Accend is a beautifully designed yet strikingly simple bike that seamlessly blends technical innovations such as its MonoFlex full-suspension system and integrated rear-light into a lightweight, elegant aluminum frame. The bike was one of only 8 Gold Medal winners in a competition that included more than 400 entries from 25 countries.

This is the third year in a row that Giant has won the Gold Medal at the Eurobike Awards. The Giant CityStorm won the gold medal in 2007, followed by the CitySpeed in 2008.

The Accend series of bicycles, designed by Morder Yang and Roger Huang, are built by Giant Manufacturing in Taiwan. The Gold Medal award is decided by an international panel of design experts and is presented at Eurobike—the world’s leading tradeshow for the bicycle industry. Eurobike is held each September in Friedrichshafen, Germany.

The Eurobike Award jury selected offered these comments in awarding the Giant Accend 1the Gold Medal: “A bicycle is based on a triangular frame. The designers of the Giant have taken this shape and used it deliberately and consistently. In essence, the Giant bicycle is a complicated, full-suspension bike, but that doesn’t show on the outside. And that’s the genius of the whole thing.”
