HORRILLO INJURED IN CRASH AT GIRO

Rabobank rider Pedro Horrillo suffered serious injuries on Saturday from a crash during Stage 8 of the Giro d’Italia.

On a fast, very dangerous descent, Horrillo crashed and fell some 200 feet down a ravine, breaking his leg in several places and several ribs. Flown by helicopter to a Bergamo hospital, doctors said his condition was very serious but stable.

“It was a bad crash, but we’re hoping that Pedro will come through as soon as possible,” said Adri Van Houwelingen, Rabobank team manager at the Giro. “The doctors have put him in an artificial coma to see if that will help. The good news is they’ve ruled out any head injuries. Now we’ll have to see what happens.”

Everybody at Giant wishes Pedro a full and speedy recovery.
