GIANT MTB PRO ADAM CRAIG WINS U.S. SHORT TRACK CROWN

Adam wins US National Champions Jersey riding prototype Anthem X Advanced SL

Adam Craig has added one more U.S. National title to the many he has won in the years that he’s raced for Giant: He’s claimed the Short Track champion’s jersey with a blistering attack in the final minutes of the event at the U.S. National Mountain Bike Championships in Granby, Colorado.

Riding the prototype Giant Anthem X Advanced SL, Adam reaffirmed his reputation as the best mountain bike racer in the United States by decisively beating Todd Wells (Specialized Factory Racing) and Jeremy Horgan-Kobelski (Subaru/Gary Fisher). Adam assaulted the field with about ten minutes to go in the race, and jumped immediately from third to first place.

“Some official-looking guy near the start/finish said I had two laps to go,” Adam said. “So I thought I’d better hurry up and make my move. Unfortunately, I found out I really had five laps to go—it was so hard, I almost had to stop!”

Adam’s victory comes on the bicycle that he has been instrumental in developing and refining. Working closely with Giant’s design team, Adam spent months field-testing the prototype Anthem X Advanced SL. “I can say without question that it’s the most capable bike I’ve ever ridden,” Adam said. “The stiff, lightweight and comfortable feel of the composite frame combined with the Anthem X Maestro suspension system makes for a bike that’s World Cup fast but also ready to rip on real mountain bike trails.”

One year ago, Adam won the Super D and XC U.S. National titles riding the first production model of the aluminum frame 2009 Anthem X. Even then, Giant engineers were already deep into the project of creating a composite version of the championship-winning bike that Adam has now ridden to a Short Track title.

“We wanted to incorporate some of the technical features and advantages of our composite road frame technology—the massive downtube shape and the super-stiff bottom bracket area for example—and blend these with our suspension technology to create the best-performing, most versatile race bike possible,” said Dennis Lane, Giant’s global product development manager. “Adam’s continued success proves we accomplished that goal.”
