SHOOTING ORCHID'S CROSS CHANNEL CYCLE TARGET
|
Giant dealer Birdie Bikes of Chertsey is supporting a group of novice cyclists in their ‘mission’ to cycle 700 miles in 7 days from Hampton, England to Samoens, France in August 2009. The ‘Shooting Orchid’s’ mission will see a group of cyclists whose previous cycling experience dates back to the days when they were at school or earlier, aim to prove that with enough commitment, effort and training, anything is possible.
Their efforts will not just be highlighting the health and fitness benefits cycling can offer to even the most in-experienced; the team is aiming to raise as much money as possible for two very worthwhile causes. Shooting Star Children’s Hospice based in Hampton, and Orchid Cancer Appeal, will both benefit from the £15,000 fundraising target.
Shooting Stars hospice provides essential care and support for children and young people with life-limiting conditions and their families, free of charge, 365 days a year. Orchid is the only UK registered cancer charity to focus entirely on the male-specific cancers; prostate, penile and testicular, and exist to save lives and suffering caused by these diseases by funding medical research and promoting awareness about them.
Pictured are four of the Shooting Orchids receiving their gleaming new Giant FCR bicycles outside Birdies Bikes, ready for a hard winter of training! The Shooting Orchids will be at the Hampton Hill lights ceremony on the 28th of November and will certainly welcome any words of encouragement.
