Giant MTB pro Adam Craig, the US National Champion in XC and Super D, has been selected to represent the United States in Mountain Bike competition at the 2008 Olympics in Beijing in August.
Adam is one of 16 men and 5 women selected on Tuesday, July 1, by USA Cycling across the disciplines of mountain biking, road cycling, track cycling and BMX. Todd Wells is the other member of the two-man mountain bike team that will represent the United States.
Adam, 26 years old and residing in Bend, Oregon, was selected by USA Cycling to the US Olympic team due in part to the fact that he is the only other American (besides Wells) to record a top-ten finish in a World Cup race this season. He placed eighth at the second round in Offenburg Germany. Additionally, Adam was the only other US rider to place in the top 20 of four World Cups this year.
Among the other cyclists who will represent the US in Beijing are Georgia Gould in Women’s Mountain Bike, Taylor Phinney and Sarah Hammer in Men’s and Women’s Track, Kristin Armstrong in Women’s Road racing, and George Hincapie, Levi Leipheimer and David Zabriskie in Men’s Road racing.
