Many people will remember the time when Taiwan was best known for its production of cheap goods. Then Taiwan put itself on the map as an advanced example of what was possible with information and communication technologies, turning itself into one of the most highly wired countries in the world. If the Taiwan Tourism Board’s latest promotional venture (together with Giant) is successful, Taiwan will soon be famous for something else – as a mecca for the adventure-seeking cyclist.
Kicking off this month is “Ride Taiwan”, a two-year contest in which the annual grand prize is a free trip for 2 to the island of Taiwan for 3 days and 2 nights. Entering the contest – which is only open to citizens of the UK, France, Germany and The Netherlands – is easy and is done by uploading a picture or video along with a short story detailing a cycling adventure that you have had. Each month features a different theme.
In addition to the annual grand prize (in total 8 tickets will be given away, 2 tickets for each participating country), there are monthly prizes of Giant’s rugged and versatile backpack awarded to three entries. Winners and all accepted entries will be highlighted on the website.
Taiwan, with its highly developed transport system, stunning mountains and natural beauty (not to mention friendly people and incredible cuisine!) – is a cyclist’s paradise.
