DEFY ADVANCED 1 WINS BICYCLING MAGAZINE'S EDITORS' CHOICE AWARD
BICYCLING MAGAZINE CHOOSES GIANT FOR TWO EDITORS’ CHOICE AWARDS
Bicycling magazine unveiled the winners of its 2009 Editors’ Choice awards in its June issue, and Giant took top honors in two categories. The Defy Advanced 1 won the “Plush Road” category and the Avail Advanced 2** won the “Women’s Enthusiast Road” category. The TCR Advanced 1 was also named a finalist in the "Enthusiast Road" category.
“With all of the quality products on the market today it’s a big honor for Giant to be chosen for not just one, but two awards,” said Dennis Lane, Giant’s global director of product development.
Bicycling is the world’s highest-circulation consumer cycling publication, and its Editors’ Choice awards are followed closely by in-the-know consumers. The Defy Advanced 1 beat two other “Plush Road” finalists, the Cervélo RS Ultegra SL and Specialized Roubaix Expert.
Here's what the editors of Bicycling had to say: "With the Defy Advanced 1, Giant solved the paradox of making a bike comfortable while maintaining an extremely aggressive feel. It can bomb a rough dirt road without beating you up, then sprint for a city-limit sign a mile later.” Here’s more: “This Defy has Giant’s top tech, including the BB86 oversize bottom bracket and tapered steerer with integrated headset, and it shows in the bike’s performance. Plus, it weighs nearly a pound less than the other finalists.” And there is this final affirmation: “Our winner stood out for its balanced attributes and raises the bar for the category higher than ever before.”
The Avail Advanced 2 topped the Cannondale Synapse Féminine 4 and Felt ZW3 in the “Women’s Enthusiast” category.
The Giant TCR Advanced 1 was also selected as a finalist in the “Enthusiast Road” category by Bicycling’s editors and it gets this good ink: “The Giant TCR Advanced felt the raciest, with more powertrain stiffness, aggressive handling, and a slightly buzzier ride.”
